Squib:
In linguistics, a squib is a short article that is intended to ignite thinking and discourse by others on topics of theoretical importance – e.g., see MIT Press’s journal, Linguistic Inquiry [1]. Often, squibs outline anomalous data but do not suggest a solution. A squib may also develop a minor theoretical argument.
A squib is a small explosive device used in a wide range of industries, from special effects to military applications. They resemble tiny sticks of dynamite in appearance and in construction, although with considerably less explosive power. Squibs can be used to generate mechanical force, as well as to provide visual pyrotechnic effects both in movies and in live theatrics. Being an explosive device, a squib releases a considerable amount of energy, and can therefore be used for shattering or propelling many different materials.[1]

The ModernSquib is a forum that could best be described as “Tongue and Cheek” “Irreverent” and perhaps at worst simply, “Sarcastic.” It is a site that I hoped could provide a small amount of humor whenever it is set to explode the myths held so dearly by the ‘walking-dead’ American and Global Village Citizen. The Articles of Contention that I write or edit and post on the Squib, may seem pedagogical at times, perhaps even pedestrian, but I promise will always, by design, challenge the reader’s concrete paradigm’s and general working concept’s that they use to navigate their personal and public existence.
It was my desire to create and nurture a modern dialog and critical study of society with a sense of humor, delivered through the magic of the world’s noble endeavor, the internet. I have decided that I will tirelessly research this vast world, this electronic medium and present the real world as it should be seen: with irony and sensibility, examined with purpose and mind full intent and maybe even Truthfully.
Perhaps it is my compassion and empathy for those left behind in the struggle for personal godhood through consumption and the struggle for “legitimacy” that made me a practicing Skeptic and Satirist. But don’t get me wrong. I have a great respect for those that see the “upside” in everything when the circumstances warrant, and I truly believe that mankind is capable of great things. At his best, Man is curious and accepting, adaptable and clever, capable of great kindnesses when he stops to think about things as they should be. Hopefully, this little “rag” will open someone’s mind and get them to think about the ‘air about them.’
