Turf Wars

In the current global dialogue on U.S. vs. Them and what should be done with the Muslim world view, it is not only prudent but mandatory that we understand the opposing viewpoint. In order to do this, we must have the facts of history from a secular perspective and not a religious one. Although religious differences may be the “obvious’ motivator for war…in truth it’s about the turf!

The borders that contain the resources of a country are meant to represent the strength, success and will of its citizens. Most of today’s geography is defined by nations’ claims of “god given” rights, and whether that god is Allah, Jehovah, or the almighty dollar makes little difference. If one were to view the Christian vs. Muslim question from an informed philosophical perspective, one would find that there is no fundamental difference between these religions. And both have made claims throughout history to lands and resources, employing violence to enforce those claims. Any successful empire has used its “holy armies” to gain what they believed to be their “god-given” rights to turf. The differences are cosmetic in the strict philosophical context. more…

The Answer to Anxiety: Orgasm

I suffer from Severe Endogenous Anxiety Disorder. At least that is what my Therapist told me the other day. It seems that lately whenever I read the news or watch the television, my heart begins to act like a post-modern polyrhythmic drum track. I get short breathed, and I’m quite sure my sphincter constricts. I often dream of walking through Escheresque landscapes populated with one-eyed, many handed, two-faced caricatures of George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld. Unfortunately, my Therapist is a Republican, and I must admit, did not seem inclined to offer any suggestions for the Interpretation of The Dream. She did give me this Advice… more…
